Course Overview:

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) develops the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes important for students to take positive action to protect and enhance their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing in varied and changing contexts. Physical education is fundamental to the acquisition of movement skills and concepts to enable students to participate in a range of physical activities – confidently, competently and creatively.

 

What will you be taught?

The PDHPE syllabus has recently been amended to meet the diverse learning needs of students and ensure the content being taught is relevant to the society in which students currently live. The new syllabus is being implemented for Year 7 and 9 students in 2019 and for all Year 7-10 students from 2020 onwards.

Students will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the strategies that promote a sense of personal identity and build resilience and respectful relationships
  • Demonstrate an understanding of movement skills, concepts and strategies to respond confidently, competently and creatively in a variety of physical activity contexts
  • Understand the significance of contextual factors that influence health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity
  • Enact and strengthen health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity

The content areas in which students will develop this knowledge and understanding include:

  • Identity and transition
  • Relationships
  • Inclusivity and Equality
  • Changes and challenges
  • Managing, promoting and contributing to health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity
  • Influences on health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity
  • Movement contexts, strategies and tactics

What types of assessments will be used to determine your final mark?

Theory assessment tasks include individual or group research tasks, examinations and in-class tasks. Practical assessment tasks involve an individual or group evaluation of the students’ skill level across a range of selected sporting contexts. Students will be provided with an assessment schedule but may also access assessment due dates in the assessment tab on the school website.

Fees:

There is a $10 fee that is included with this subject, which is used to purchase textbooks and sporting equipment.
